Community Values & Guidelines

—Arne Garborg

Community Values

Compassion, Love, & Respect

  • We treat others how we want to be treated in an ideal world.

  • We listen deeply to each other without an intent to respond.

  • We’re kind (we avoid gossip, teasing, snark, or ego).

Anti-Racism & Intersectionality

  • This is an anti-racist and intersectional space.

  • We welcome & support writers of all backgrounds, races, gender identities, sexual orientations, ages, & religions.

  • We acknowledge that white supremacy, systemic oppression, racism, and patriarchy exist and continue to cause harm to Black people, Indigenous people, people of color, and marginalized groups.

  • We do our part to dismantle systems of oppression through education, action, and amplification of marginalized voices.

Creativity, Curiosity, & Playfulness

  • We release expectations to be perfect so creativity can flow.

  • This is serious work, and it’s not that serious. We giggle, we dance, we goof, we throw confetti, we laugh, we have party sticks.

  • We cultivate curious over closed minds.

Paradox, Connection, & Individuality

  • We embrace paradox, knowing that two opposing truths can exist at once.

  • We are all connected and made of the same stardust. We co-create our realities.

  • AND we are all individuals with unique histories, challenges, needs, preferences, personalities, and styles. Success means something different to everyone.

Community Guidelines

  • Racism, bullying, microaggressions, bigotry, or hate will not be tolerated.

  • Be kind: Leave snark, cruelty, or gossip at the door.

  • When someone speaks or writes, listen with the intent to understand deeply and without the intent to reply. Check-in with your emotions and respond rather than react.

  • Respect each other’s privacy, copyrights, and intellectual property. DO NOT share or distribute someone’s comments or creative work outside of your online classroom, the website, or VCC, including Renee’s.

  • Only offer advice or critical feedback when it’s explicitly requested.

  • Give more than you receive. Cheer each other on as much as you ask for feedback.

  • Use appropriate channels. Please direct any critical feedback of Renee or her programs to the appropriate channels: Feedback surveys and/or email (renee@lithabits.com).

  • Renee reserves the right to delete any posted content she deems harmful, disrespectful, violates the community guidelines, or is wildly off topic.

What are the consequences?
